    Drivng for a Purpose

Green awareness ribbon for Lyme Disease.

    Sam's Battle

At the age of 12, Sam fell ill to chronic Lyme Disease and other chronic Tick-Borne Infections, like Bartonella and Mycoplasma. These stealth-like bacterial infections elude the immune system and are highly complicated to get diagnosed, treated appropriately, and recognized by most medical professionals. Sam was so scarily sick that he was medically homebound from school for 3 years. A teacher had to come to his house to teach him English and Math only until he was strong enough to return to school. Even when he went back, he had a modified school schedule to accommodate his severe fatigue and compromised immune system. After finding Lyme Literate doctors to help him heal, Sam treated the multiple infections and strengthened his immune system for several years. He continues to detox while maintaining a healthy lifestyle to reach partial remission of this chronic disease. Even though Sam feels like he is 85% better, he has to be cautious about exposing himself to more than his immune system can handle to prevent a flare of Lyme, Bartonella, and Mycoplasma. Just like a driver on a speedway, he must navigate his health with precision and care to avoid setbacks, similar to how a motorsports team strategizes for high-speed racing.

    Was it a tick bite?

Not necessarily. Most cases of Lyme Disease and Tick-Borne Infections are acquired from a bite of an infected tick. However, some sufferers can acquire these chronic infections congenitally, from mother to unborn child. Sam's mother had a known tick bite just before becoming pregnant with Sam's older sister, who has also been severely ill at the same time from these numerous deadly infections as well as his mother. All three family members have been fighting together to combat these hard-to-treat chronic infections, much like a team in motorsports working together at a speedway. Sam has had to learn to fight for his life as well as be a caretaker at the same time with so many family members severely sick at the same time, showcasing the resilience required in the face of adversity, much like a driver navigating the challenges of racing.

    Sam's Mission

To say Sam has a mission to drive towards is an understatement. Sam, with the help of his family, is an advocate and, hopefully one day, he will be an ambassador for Chronic Lyme Disease and Other Chronic Tick-Borne Infections, which is a pandemic throughout the world. Shedding light on prevention and awareness, while calling out for more funding for research, is crucial. The CDC reports nearly 1/2 a million new cases of Lyme Disease alone per calendar year, which is an unbelievable amount of people infected in a year. Many do not get properly diagnosed and suffer silently, while others are misdiagnosed with different conditions. As a dedicated driver in the motorsports community, Sam is driven to help find a cure and will continue to use his racing platform at the speedway to bring attention to this cause like his life depends on it.

    Student at Purdue University

    Prestigious University

Purdue is considered a "New Ivy" by Forbes, a title that recognizes high-performing, highly selective public institutions that employers value.  Purdue is #1 ranked in Indiana and U.S News and World Report's Top 10 Most Innovative Universities in the U.S.  Purdue is also ranked #1 Most Recognized Public University in the U.S. and #6 overall in the world (American Caldwell, 2025). Purdue is absolutely known for engineering.  Purdue's Mechanical Engineering is ranked in the Top 10 in the country (U.S. News & World Report).  It is highly competitive to be admitted into Purdue's 1st Year Engineering Program, demanding extremely high GPA and test scores to be accepted into the program.  Once admitted to the program, students must compete and maintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher to be accepted into the highly sought after Mechanical Engineering Program.

    Mechanical Engineering Helps Racing

Sam attends Purdue University full-time while maintaining his race schedule.  He studies Mechanical Engineering to enhance his racing performance by understanding the engineering of his race car.  Sam is able to verbalize to his crew how the car is performing in order to find more speed in the car.  Sam also works on his own race car furthering his understanding to know what his car needs while racing.  Purdue University has supplied the race industry many talented engineering students in the Racing Capital of the World.  Purdue’s motorsports legacy and the Indy 500 - News

    Always an Advanced Learner

Since 2nd grade, Sam has tested into advanced classes.  From 5th grade to high school, he was even 2 years advanced in Math.  Sam graduated High School with nearly 1 year of college classes complete.  He graduated with distinction from a high preforming school district in Indiana.  Sam did all of this while being medically homebound from school for 3 years due to his chronic illness.  This means he had a public-school teacher come to his house to teach him only Math and English for those 3 years. Sam excelled, despite his health setback and major challenges.  He is truly "One Driven Dude."
